The Gift of Life

February 3, 2021

Dear Friends,

It has been 24 years since we began the non-profit of New Direction Ministries.  Some of you have been involved for all of these years through financial contributions and prayer.  There was a season of 17 years in which we ran a therapeutic boarding school on top of a mountain in Madison County, NC.   Over that period of time we, and staff, had the honor of living, working with, schooling around 300 teenagers.  All of these came for a variety of reasons; the common thread being they were plucked out of the world, by God, to come to a place set apart to be revived and strengthened in order to return to the flow of life and thrive.   Our greatest desire was for them to hear the truth of the Gospel.  We knew our role was to consistently plant the seed of Truth and the rest was between them and God.

We are living in a time in which the world says “truth is subjective; what you believe to be true is your truth; there is no absolute truth.” Oxford Dictionary of English defines truth as “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.”   The Bible identifies truth as a quality intrinsic to the very nature of God.  It clearly states that “Jesus is the Way, THE TRUTH, and the Life……He came into the world to bear witness to the truth.” (John 18:37) He is Truth in the middle of our reality.  The Great I Am of our IS.

Some of you volunteered on the farm over those years of the school and came to know and love the teens with whom you worked.  We want to share a story of one of these teens.  As many have shared with us, over the years since they were residents, he once told us he used to drive up to the farm and just sit along the side of the road and reminisce.  What he, as well as others, remember was there was a time in their lives in which they were totally immersed in Christian community.  A time in which they were removed from the pressures of the world and allowed the opportunity to experience new challenges and break free of old mindsets and behavior.  We did life together.

There has been so much we learned over those years on the mountain as well as these years since that time as we work with single mothers and children.   A book is in the process of being written sharing all of these experiences.  We’ll let you know when it is ready.  In the meantime, thank you for being a part of setting captives free.

With Appreciation, Bridget and Dave Walls
